Vitreoretinal surgery : Pars plana vitrectomy (PPV), retinal detachment, intraocular hemorrhage. It is a controlled technique applied in many retinal diseases such as membrane and macular hole on the visual center, which allows entering the posterior part of the eye with a closed system.
This surgery can be performed locally under general anesthesia in some cases. The surgery usually takes 30 to 60 minutes and is mostly performed without stitches. The posterior part of the eye is reached by 0.5 mm incisions from three points. After the vitreous gel in the eye is cleaned, surgical procedures are performed for the problem in the retina. At the end of the surgery, depending on the underlying disease, the inside of the eye is filled with serum, gas or silicone oil and the operation is terminated. Patients may have to lie in special positions after surgery. It is inconvenient for patients whose eyes are filled with special gases to travel by plane and travel to high-altitude places until the gas is absorbed. The gases used are absorbed spontaneously within 2-4 weeks. However, in patients who have silicone oil implanted, the silicone should be removed after a while.
